It doesn’t matter what the flavor of the tea is or what the real benefits of Wu Long tea is, all tea stems from the Camellia Sinensis plant. The different tastes and textures of tea branches off from the various forms of the fermentation processes. What has brought Wu Long tea to the forefront is its numerous health benefits.


A Tea by Any Other Name

First off, Wu Lung is pronounced as one word. It sounds like wulong tea or wu long. Despite the many names and spellings for this type of tea such as wulong, oolong tea, or wu-yi tea, they are all referring to the same kind of tea. In the case of wu-yi tea there are slight differences but it is wu long tea nonetheless.

Regarding the preparation steps, wu long tea is not fermented completely, it is just fermented half way or so and it is made between the black and green tea families.Wulong tea, another form of spelling, has its leaves dehydrated by the sun and it is allowed to just partially oxidize, about 20-80%, or when the leaf edges begin to appear red. This affects the depth of the tea, black tea has more depth, but green tea is lighter.


Where does Wu Long Tea Come From?

Wu Long is derived from China, in the tropical areas close to Guangdong and Fujian. Even Taiwan has Wu Long tea. Anxi is the prime spot for this magnificent tea. In addition, this region has been growing this tea like gangbusters since 2003 because many of the medical facts supporting the health benefits of this tea were released to the media. This tea became a must have by the world’s elite and the greater populous. Stores could not stock enough on their shelves and magazines began highlighting the benefits of drinking this tea every morning. Not only does it taste nice, it smells even more charming.

What makes this tea so special is the hybrid qualities. Like Blade in the comic book and movie storyline, who has the abilities of vampires but can walk around in the sunlight like the rest of humanity. Wu Long tea combines the assets of black and green teas and comes out sparkling. This says a lot because Koreans are very proud of their green tea and green tea provides healthy particles to us as well. Wu Long has the aroma of black and the amazing attributes of green. It has been proclaimed to augment our metabolism, body energy and combat fat cells. It does not seem to sacrifice any allure regardless of how many sips you take. It tastes delicious.

The only thing humans consume more than tea is water. Tea even strikes down juice. That is astonishing. Wu Long has been providing sustenance and nourishment to humans for centuries. It did not take modern scientists to educate Chinese citizens three centuries prior that this tea is beyond healthy.

Devoted workers in laboratories in Japan found that swallowing Wu Long tea before digesting carbohydrates like potatoes and spaghetti undermines the skyrocketing affect of insulin. So, it is wise to drink some Wu Long about a quarter of an hour before your meal. This translates into the fact that your carbs will not be stored as fat by your body. Not only does this count for pasta, but cake as well.

Do you like spectacular skin? Wu Long helps to clear your skin after about a month of dedicated consumption. Meanwhile, the other health benefits, which have been mentioned, are occurring. How many people want to look younger? I know so many in Hollywood do. Free radicals make us look older. Wu Long confronts dark spots on the epidermis and slows down the progression of wrinkling. How can one drink do this? Well it can thank the way that it is processed and all of the wonderful antioxidants and polyphenols in the Camellia Sinensis plant for that. Wu Long has been waging a war on the free radicals for centuries. Too bad our body doesn’t produce Wu Long tea! So much for evolution.

At Japan’s Osaka University, their Department of Dentistry found that regular sips of Wu Long tea decreased the affects of plaque that lead to tooth decay. So the prevention of tooth decay is yet another health benefit of Wu Long.

The real benefits of Wu Long tea have been rightfully acclaimed. The Wu Long tea lobby, that is an oxymoron, did not send millions of dollars like the Iowa farmers did to lobbyists in the U.S. to sell a false agenda. Medical research bolsters what many people have felt for more than a few decades. Scientists have been studying Wu Long tea since the late 1970’s and the tea helps people lose weight. Another attribute is that it acts as an antioxidant. There is an entire range of medical and technical data to support the validity of claims about Wu Long tea’s health benefits. Wu Long tea could be part of the main food group it has so many healthy qualities. Perhaps someday, it will.
